In the Maps, Weather, Places and Wind views, a timeline is used to display various weather information from the past to current data and forecasts.

The Maps view offers an individual selection and combination of all data. The Weather, Locations and Wind views (via "Further Products") display defined combinations with just a few options.

In the upper area there are sections for Germany or Europe to choose from. For Europe, however, only forecasts are shown.

The selection / combination of the weather information is set by using the circular buttons on the right. The buttons are activated or deactivated by tapping them (active = blue).

If a data type is not available for a certain point in time, the symbol is crossed out.

By swiping across the timeline at the bottom (right or left), a corresponding point in time can be selected or manually pushed into the past or future. A double tap on the timeline starts an animation, a single tap stops the animation.

The blue marking and the heading display the viewed point in time. Light blue means past times, dark blue are predictions. The blue point on the timeline marks the transition from measurement to forecast. Tap directly on the blue marking, jump back or forward to the current point in time.

The meaning of the colors used is explained in legends that appear when you tap the arrow at the top of the map.
The occurrence of precipitation as snow is symbolized by small white snow crystals.
The amount of precipitation corresponds to the following colors: cyan> 0.1 mm / h, green> 0.4 mm / h, green-yellow> 2.0 mm / h, yellow> 5 mm / h, orange> 10 mm / h, red> 30 mm / h, violet> 75 mm / h, blue> 150 mm / h.
In the event of snowfall, the colors or values correspond to a snow depth in cm per hour.
This information relates to an area of 1x1 meter.
Note: The quantities given are not actually measured hourly values. Rather, it is assumed that this amount would be measured if the depicted precipitation area remained at this point for 1 hour with the same intensity. In reality, however, precipitation areas do change their position and intensity.

In the satellite images (cloud symbol) the clouds are displayed in shades of gray. The darker the cloud, the thicker it is.
In case of lightning as an indicator of thunderstorms, individual lightning strikes as well as areas and intensities are displayed with the colors yellow and red (intense).
In case of wind (symbol circle with arrow) forecast data are displayed. Optionally (by moving the button to the left) the mean wind or the predicted gusts can be selected as values.
For temperature (symbol thermometer), predicted temperatures of various selectable pressure levels (surface, 850 hPa, 500hPa) are displayed.

Weather station data (symbol House or under the product Places) The weather data from the official DWD weather stations and forecasts for various locations are displayed in hourly resolution.
The amount of meteorological information is determined by the type of station. Ideally, the following measured values are available:

If „-“ is displayed, no data is available.

Tapping a station leads to a detailed display with possibly more measured values, warnings and forecasts (as with the favorites).

Further setting options and functions (only possible in the Maps product):
The individual blue buttons can be permanently switched on or off via the settings menu item (top right). Here e.g. the air pressure in isobar displays can also be added.
Optionally, the automatic start of the animation and the saving of the last map view can also be deactivated or activated.

On the upper right side is a button (triangle with arrow) which you can use to jump directly to the warning map with the same map section. If you have activated the Locate-me function in the settings of the start screen, you will see a button (arrow) above that you can use to center your location on the map.
