Food and drink

Eat Lutfisk (stockfish); Kottbulle (small meatballs); Smor, Ost och Sill (also called S.O.S.: a platter with butter, cheese and herring); Kanelbulle (delicious cinnamon rolls, often served with coffee and widely available). Be sure to sample a Smorgasbord (a celebratory buffet-style meal with a wide range of dishes).
Drink Akvavit (the local spirit) at the end of your meal.

Accommodation

Camping and hostels (which offer high quality accommodation) are great solutions to explore the country.
Local Hostel Association: www.svenskaturistforeningen.se (also for huts, lodges and mountaineering)
More hostels can be found at: www.svif.se
Hotels and Bed & Breakfasts are everywhere.
Holiday cottages are also an option to consider (www.stuga.nu).
Camping: www.camping.se Note: to stay in local campsites you must apply for a
Svenskt Campingkort card. The Allemansratten (right of common access) allows you to pick berries in the woods, ski, walk and camp anywhere outside of fenced areas or cultivated land. However, you must be at least 70m away from occupied houses.
